How it works
The seller offers to ship the horse to you and says you just need to pay the transport cost, often through a shipping company they recommend. The company is fake, or the seller is. You pay the fee, and no horse and no hauler ever show up. A version of this also targets sellers, who are asked to pay a shipper up front and get reimbursed later.
How to protect yourself
- Book transport yourself with a hauler you found and vetted, not one the other party insists on.
- Do not pay shipping fees to the seller or to a company they set up for you.
- Confirm the horse exists and is really theirs before any transport conversation starts.
- Be suspicious of any deal where the whole thing hinges on paying a shipping fee to a stranger up front.
